At Traction Rec, we place a great deal of importance on the community we are a part of, the one we help create, and the one we give back to.
As a team, we are closely tied to our values: Community is at the heart of everything we do, measuring our intentions and actions by how well we show up for each other and our customers. We amplify positive change in both the lives of people in our communities and our customers’ communities. Impact is the reason we show up everyday.
As a remote-first company, we prioritize coming together in-person as regularly as possible as a team to support our community. 2022 was a year of giving back, and the Traction Rec family gave back almost 400 hours in volunteering. Whether it was serving up some good food, or helping shape and educate young minds to the world of healthy food and sustainable practices - they did it all.
Here's a quick glimpse at some of the ways the team helped support and give back to the community around them:
Trail building with the North Shore Mountain Bike Association (NSMBA) who brings like-minded individuals in dedicating to caring for a sustainable trail network in their community.
With the help of a passionate group of animal loving volunteers, assisted the Second Chance Cheekeye Ranch to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome horses in need.
Working towards Good Food For All with Fresh Roots by growing educational farms on school grounds, where the good food grown goes into food programs and the surrounding community.
Volunteered with Project Boon to help those facing food insecurity make ends meet by distributing groceries and needed items such as backpacks filled with school supplies, Thanksgiving meals, and toys during holiday-based events.
Assisted MOSAIC in their initiatives in walking alongside newcomers as they start their lives in Canada.
A few other organizations that we have supported throughout the year in their missions and efforts, and span across Canada and the US:
IRSSS - Indian Residential School Survivors Society
CMHA BC - Canadian Mental Health Association of BC
Equal Justice Initiative
Environmental Youth Alliance
Vancouver Chinatown Foundation
Sunshine Coast Community Services
Canuck Place Children's Hospice
Canadian Celiac Association
Downtown Eastside Women's Centre
One Girl Can
North York Harvest Food Bank
Urban Native Youth Association
The Alice Sanctuary
Rain or shine, the desire to work towards building a better community around them is one of the many binding forces that empowers Rec'ers to create an impact. Because, like we said earlier, it's the reason we show up everyday.
We can't be reacting anymore. We need to be innovating — getting ahead of the issues. With Traction Rec, I can dream and then we can build it and make it happen.
